Forget reality and choose your favorite characters! Perhaps they'll take some wins before you wake up...
Scoring systems:
- (Revenge scoring?): When your pick participates in a match, you earn points equal to their vote share. Whoever eliminates your pick is designated as their nemesis. In subsequent rounds where you chose that same pick, you earn points based on the vote share against the nemesis. When another entrant defeats the nemesis, they become a representative for your pick, and you will begin earning points equal to their vote share. If another entrant eliminates the representative, they become the new nemesis, and the process repeats.
Repeated wins by the same nemesis (essentially loss streaks for your pick) also grant your pick exponentially stacking multipliers to the number of points they earn from those matches, with a base equal to 1 plus the vote share of your pick in their elimination match. When the nemesis is eliminated, this multiplier resets to 1.
Furthermore, if your pick loses in Round 1, a bounty is placed on the entrant that eliminated them. In subsequent rounds, if your pick from the previous round is eliminated and the one who defeated them is not the specific entrant you picked to eliminate them, a bounty is placed on that entrant. Bounties are worth 100 * (vote share + abs(seed difference) / total entrant count / 2) in that matchup. Bounties are collected immediately (will likely be a more proper "bounty" in future iterations, but this was just easiest to implement right now).
Note: this is an extremely experimental system. The goal is to give less popular characters a chance and also ensure that your vote has an impact.
Example
You picked Character X (seed 15) to go all the way in a 32 entrant contest. X loses to Y (seed 18) in round 1 with 300 of 1000 votes (30% share), which earns you 30 points of base value. You also earn the bounty on Y for 100 * (0.3 + |15 - 18| / 32 / 2) = 100 * (0.3 + 0.0469) = 34.69 points. If Y (nemesis) wins round 2 600–400, X earns you another 40 * 1.3 = 52 points. Then Y wins again 800-200, and X earns 20 * 1.3 * 1.3 = 33.8 points. Eventually Y loses to Z 500–1500, so X earns you 75 points. Z (representative) then loses to W 1000–3000, and X earns 25 points. W (nemesis) wins once again 3000–1000, and X earns 25 * 1.3 = 32.5 points.
Now let's say you picked Character A to advance from round 1 to round 2 but not to round 3. If A wins in round 1 but loses in round 2 to B, B will have a bounty if you did not specifically pick B to eliminate A in round 2 (e.g. you did not pick B to advance to round 2 at all or you picked A to defeat B in round 2).
